What JOBSTATUS Does
Most special barcode scans on the shop floor change something — they start a timer, stop one, or adjust inventory. JOBSTATUS is different: it doesn't touch anything. It's a pure lookup. Scan it and Standard Time® shows you a status summary for one project, then leaves everything exactly as it was.
That makes it useful anywhere someone needs a quick answer without leaving the scan station or opening the full app: a supervisor walking the floor who wants to check a job's progress, an operator confirming a work order is actually the one they think it is before starting, or anyone who wants a fast read on how many hours have piled up on a job.
There are exactly two entry points, covered in the next two sections:
- A project is already scanned — the status for that project appears immediately, with no prompt at all.
- No project has been scanned yet — JOBSTATUS asks you to scan or type a project name first, then shows its status.
Checking Status of the Job You're Already On
If you've already scanned a project — for example, you just started a timer, or you're mid-sequence on a work order — scanning JOBSTATUS shows that exact project's status right away. There's no prompt, no second scan, and starting a timer is not required first; simply having a project identified in the current scan session is enough.
This is the fastest path: one extra scan, and the answer is on screen. It's the natural fit for "how's this job actually doing?" the moment you're already standing at the job scanning in.
Checking Status Without a Job Scanned Yet
You don't need to be working on a job to check its status. If no project has been scanned in the current session — say, you just walked up to a shared scan station — scan JOBSTATUS on its own. Standard Time® prompts: "Please scan a project to view its status." Scan or type the project's name or code, and its status appears.
This path doesn't require an employee to be identified first, and it doesn't start or affect any timer — it's a read-only lookup that works standing alone. If the name you enter doesn't match any project, the status line reports "'<name>' is not a valid project name. Please try again" and no popup appears; just scan or type the correct name to try again.
What's in the Status Popup
Both paths above land on the exact same popup, titled with the project's name. It's built from six lines, each pulled from data Standard Time® already tracks — nothing here requires extra setup or configuration.
| Line | What it shows |
|---|---|
Created |
The date the project record was first created. Shows (unknown) instead of a date for old/migrated records — see Legacy Projects and the Created Date below. |
Total hours logged |
All-time hours from every time log against the project, across every employee who has ever worked it — not just the current user or the current shift. |
Percent complete |
The same percent-complete value shown on the Projects grid and the project's Gantt chart. |
Start / Finish |
The project's scheduled start and finish dates. Either line is left off the popup entirely if that date isn't set. |
Status |
The project's free-text Status field (for example, "On hold" or "Waiting on parts"), if one has been entered. Left off if blank. |
Currently clocked in |
How many people have a running timer against this project right now — every employee, not just the person who scanned JOBSTATUS. |
On the web edition, the same six lines also appear as a dismissible toast in the corner of the screen, in addition to the modal popup — so a supervisor glancing at a shared monitor can read the result without anyone needing to click OK.
Legacy Projects and the Created Date
Every project made through the normal Standard Time® interface has a Created date stamped on it automatically the instant it's saved — there's no way to create a project without one. So a blank Created date only ever shows up on old or migrated data: records brought in from another system, or an on-premise database whose history predates that column being tracked.
When that happens, the popup shows Created: (unknown) instead of a date. Every other line — hours logged, percent complete, Start/Finish, Status, currently clocked in — still renders normally alongside it. A blank Created date never blanks out the rest of a project's real, meaningful history.
A Note on Ambiguous Project Names
When you answer the JOBSTATUS prompt by typing or scanning a name, Standard Time® matches it against project names and project codes. If your text happens to match more than one project — for example, two projects that share part of a name — the status shown is for whichever matching project is found first; there's no disambiguation prompt asking you to pick between them.
Quick Reference
| Situation | What Happens |
|---|---|
JOBSTATUS — project already scanned |
Status popup for that project appears immediately. No prompt. |
JOBSTATUS — no project scanned |
Prompts "Please scan a project to view its status"; scan or type a name, then the popup appears. |
| Name doesn't match any project | Status line reports the name is not valid; no popup. Try again with the correct name. |
CANCEL / CLEAR mid-prompt |
Dismisses the prompt cleanly. No popup, nothing else affected. |
